A mini OTDR tester brings event mapping to a pocket-sized instrument, characterizing an access or short link by sending pulses and reading the backscatter and reflections that reveal splices, connectors, bends and breaks along the fiber. For FTTH drops and short spans, a compact OTDR gives the distance-to-fault and per-event loss a power meter cannot, without the size and cost of a full backbone reflectometer. It is the field tool for “where is the fault and how bad is each event?”
